What do I need to know when hiring an inflatable slide for my party or event?
Location
Think about the space you have available and where you will position the slide.
Take care to consider the following for outdoor hires:
- Are there overhanging branches or trees to consider? Check the height of the slide to make sure they don't need cutting back or an alternative location to put the slide needs to be found.
- You will need to make sure there is space to get down the slide of the slide to access the blower and make sure it is not rubbing on any branches, bushes, walls or fencing.
- During summer months think about where the sun will be during your party or event, try and avoid positioning the slide so the sun is directly facing the slide.
- Access- We move the inflatables from our van on a sack truck, some of the slides are still quite large when rolled up and weigh up to 250kg. If we are unable to drive up to the location where the slide will be set up we will need clear access and would require a wider than normal doorway opening to get the slide through a garden gate.
For indoor hires you will need to think about :
- The ceiling height of the venue
- The height of the slide ( see next section for more info on this)
Height of slide
When looking to hire a slide, some companies will refer to platform height, others may use an overall height e.g. our 12ft platform slide has an overall height of 22 ft
- Overall height is the measurement from the floor to the top of the slide at it's highest point.
- Platform height is the measurement from the floor to the top of the steps where the users feet would be when standing at the top of the slide
This is useful to know to manage expectations around the size of the slide.
Supervision:
Slides are often made in 2 designs.
The first being where the steps and the slide can be seen from the front of the inflatable ( like each of ours are) making supervision much easier and meaning there is no need for the users to go down the slide of the slide. This make supervision by one person possible as all users can be seen from one angle.
The other design is often referred to as an up and over slide. This design has steps at the back of the slide which are accessed by users walking down the side of the slide, climbing up the steps at the back and going up and over the top of the slide before descending via the slide sheet. These are usually good for indoor hires where venues don't have a high ceiling but supervision of those climbing the steps and coming down the slide at the same time is not as easy.
